Florida Library History ProjectCharles S. Miley Learning Resources Center Indian River Community College About the Library At Indian River Community College, we recognize that no introduction to a field of knowledge is complete without instructions in how to independently proceed beyond that introduction. What students learn today can never be all they will ever need to know. Since the world is evolving and knowledge is expanding, the best education we can provide for students is the ability to cope with rapid change. The library at Indian River Community College exists to teach students how to find information by going beyond the classroom environment or expert knowledge. Our mission is to enable students to become more effective learners in conventional classes, in independent study, in distance education, and in the lifelong pursuit of learning by providing access to information and through the dedication to excellence in library service, instruction, and determination to bring new approaches to information services into the library for the college community. To achieve these goals, we strive to accomplish these objectives: To provide informational, instructional, and educational services for the college community. To provide services and equipment for the retrieval and use of print and non-print materials for the college community. To provide a comprehensive collection of print and non-print materials. To engage in cooperative interactions with community and county agencies, group and educational institutions. To participate in the institutional planning and the educational development of the
