Florida Library History ProjectUniversity of Tampa, Merle Kelce Library. The Merl Kelce Library at The University of Tampa opened October 19, 1969, and is named for the late St. Louis industrialist, Mr. Merl Kelce. His donation of $250,000 to the UT Building Fund made completion of the facility possible. The library contains over 250,000 books, subscribes to over 1,000 periodical titles, has over 100 compact disc products (full text and indexes) and provides online access with several commercial vendors and the Internet. The Merl Kelce Library is also a partial depository of U.S. Government Documents and maintains an extensive collection on various 1933 to 1969 the Library was housed in Fletcher Lounge in historic Plant Hall. The librarians and staff of paraprofessionals select, organize and maintain materials and provide services for all undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff and community patrons who use the Merl Kelce Library. It is our belief that effective use of the Library will promote student success in college and after graduation.
