Florida Library History ProjectNortheast Florida Library Information Network (NEFLIN) NEFLIN grew out of a mutual desire of a group of library professionals in the Northeast Florida area to share resources and provide better service to their patrons. In 1992, an LSCA grant was given to this group to conduct a feasibility study, which was completed by King Research. Their report, A Plan For Northeast Florida Library Information Network (NEFLIN), showed an overwhelming need for an organization whose purpose is to organize interlibrary cooperation among all types of libraries in the region. This report incorporated the results of the study into a five year plan for implementation. Recommendations from this plan included the formation of the organization as a not-for-profit corporation with a Board of Directors elected by the membership, the creation of a network office with an Executive Director and an Administrative Assistant, and the establishment of various cooperative programs designed to encourage resource sharing among the membership. Continued LSCA funding in 1993 and 1994 assisted NEFLIN in implementing these and other recommendations. Currently, there are 46 member libraries in NEFLIN located in a 19 county region in Northeast Florida. All types of libraries are represented, including large and small public libraries, private and state university libraries, community college libraries, public and private school media centers, and various types of government and private special libraries.
