Florida Library History ProjectWebster College Library Part 2 Reprinted with permission Barzelay, Mary S. "Library Profile Webster College." Flying Solo. (Winter 1998). The Webster College Library supports the curriculum of Webster College, a private junior college of business in Pasco County, just north of the Tampa Bay area in Florida. The Library of Congress Classification System is used and cataloging is done in-house with the Library Corporation's "Bibliofile." Fiction is not included in the collection. Membership in the Tampa Bay Library Consortium provides a wide range of classes and ser-vices to the library and the librarian. The library collection is approximately 3,000 volumes. Many of the legal volumes wore donated by local law firms and allows the library to support legal research in the Business Administration: Legal Emphasis program with the motto: We will show you how to do it; but for the latest, check the Legal Library at the Court House. With programs ranging from medical assisting to computer operation to travel and tourism, the collection covers everything from accounting to word processing from DOS to Windows 95, from ICD-9 medical coding to financial standards. The library also has a vertical file, periodicals and access to the Internet. Local access to the county library on-line catalog and Westlaw, are also available in the library. The college has several outreach programs in the local community. Some medical students do blood-pressure screenings at senior citizen centers and afternoon computer workshops in the Pentium lab are available to interested groups. The library has a preschool story hour. As a volunteer I have been reading to a local pre-school for eight years. When the college approached a local bookstore manager from Bookland with the

idea of providing the children's material, a new partnership was created. The store allows me to select children's books to use in the once-a-month program. Although the county library system does a story hour, it is at a different time and requires registration. The college posters for the program are posted in clinic offices and day-care centers.
