Text identification:The speculum humanae salvationis exemplifies medieval religious phiosophies by exploring typological foreshadowing in the Old Testament of biblical events that occur in the New. The lesson presented on the verso side comes from the apocryphal book of Judith and involves the persecution of Prince Alchior. The Prince professed the miraculous powers of the Israelite's God to Holofernes who, maintaining that King Nebuchadnezzar was the god of the earth, had him taken prisoner and tied to a tree.
