German oven murderers on trial in Wuppertal Zoo.
Caption on back of photograph reads: "German oven murderers on trial in Wuppertal Zoo. The trial of ten Germans, former guards at Natzweiler Camp in Alsace, on a charge of burning alive four British service women, captured after parachuting into France on a special mission, is taking place in the Zoological Garden Hall at Wuppertal, in Germany. In adjacent buildings other animals are house, perhaps more human than the Nazis in the dock. It is alleged that the four women, members of the W.A.A.F. and F.A.N.Y. were taken to a room adjoining the crematorium of the camp, where they were given injections of a drug before being pushed into the specially heated ovens. Peter Straub, the executioner who was in charge of the crematorium, is said to have stated that one woman wakened from the drug and scratched his face in the struggle as she was put in the oven. Photo shows: Peter Straub, the executioner, talking to his counsel, in the Zoo, Wuppertal, Germany.
