Caption on back of photograph reads: "The Hadamar atrocity trial opens. The Hadamar murder trial, the first mass atrocity trial to be held in the American Occupation Zone, began on October 8. This is the first time that German civilians will face murder charges not involving American nationals. Six men and one woman are being tried for the murder of 500 Polish and Russian slave labourers, at the Mental Institution of Hadamar, 40 miles from Frankfurt. Associated Press photo shows: A close up study of Alfons Klein, administrative head of the Hadamar Mental Institution, where 500 Polish and Russian slave labourers were murdered."
