Summary:
This is an oral history interview with June Bartke and Barbara Bartke, sisters from a prominent family of restaurateurs. Originally from New York, the sisters moved to Florida with their mother and stepfather in the late 1940s. Their family owned several restaurants in Tampa Bay, including the Careless Navigator, the Causeway Inn, the Rocky Point Dinner Theater, and the Red Cavalier. One of their more celebrated establishments was Bartke's Restaurant at Tampa International Airport, which opened in 1952 when the terminal was remodeled. In this interview, the Bartke sisters discuss their family's restaurants and other business ventures, their childhoods in a restaurant-owning family, and some of the memorable events that took place at their restaurants.
