Worked for the Gainesville High School m arching band. Marched in the Gainesville High School band as well as the University of Florida Marching Band as a member of the Color Guard. Describes the begi nning of the USF football/band t radition, un iversity growth, and student body population. Established the position for the USF March ing Band in 1998. The Marching B and took the field in 1999. Student involvement and enrollment in the Marching Band and the daily activities of the band. Funding, and the relationship with KK (Kappa Kappa Psi), National Honorary Band Fraternity, the Alumni Association, Athletic D epartment and other relations with the University of South Florida. Describes the first day of band practice at Fowler Field as well as the f i rst home football game. Outside band involvement i.e. parties, camp, etc. Describes the HOT Pep B and, the HOT Show Band, and recruiting bands. Impact of September 11, 2001 and the security procedures.

Mary Dooley, administrator for the USF Herd of Thunder Marching Band, describes her experiences with other marching bands and the establishment of USF's band program and traditions. She discusses funding, relationships with other departments, the first day of band practice and the first football game, and security procedures.
