Scope and Content:
The collection includes research materials collected by Jean Allen Battle and William P. Danenburg for a proposed biography of Raymond Robins, an unofficial ambassador of the United States to the Soviet government between 1917 and1918.  Also included are bibliographies, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, and photocopies of articles by and about Robins and about American – Russian relations. Personal papers included as part of the collection comprise materials relating to Battle's experience as the Dean of Students at Florida Southern College (1946-1948) and as professor and Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Florida (1956  - mid 1960s).  Contents vary and include scrapbooks, awards, correspondence with colleagues and articles and speeches written about education.

Biographical:
Jean Allen Battle was born on June 15, 1914 in Talladega, Alabama. After serving as a commissioned officer in the Army Air Force during World War II, Battle earned an Ed.D. in Education/Administration from the University of Florida in 1941. Battle began teaching at Florida Southern College in 1946, becoming Dean of Students in 1948 and Dean of the College in 1956. In 1959, he joined the University of South Florida as a professor of Education and served as the first Dean of the College of Education.
