Biographical:
The Forest Hills Lake Magdalene Civic Club of Tampa, Florida was organized in 1949 by residents of the North Tampa neighborhood in order to stop the construction of cabins and a tavern on Linebaugh Avenue. The initial purpose of the club was to zone Linebaugh Avenue as non-commercial and to form an organization to protect the interests of freeholders in civic affairs. The civic club was very active in its community and contributed to surrounding organizations by donating playground equipment to the Lake Magdalene School, sponsoring Boy and Girl Scout troops, widening streets and posting safety signs, securing a branch post office and a public library, and, in 1957, building a community center and Roy Haynes Park, where they held events and meetings.
