Biographical:
This collection represents two families, the Hughes family of Ohio and the Hester family of Tampa. Mary Louise Hughes moved to Florida with her parents in 1896. She married Ernest H. Hester and the family relocated to Tampa in the early 1900s. Mary Louise and Ernest lived with their two daughters, Alberta and Louise Hester at 401 Palm Avenue in the Tampa Heights neighborhood. Ernest owned the Hester Furniture Company in downtown Tampa. After graduating from Hillsborough High School, Alberta Hester married and moved to Gainesville, Florida with her husband, J. R. Crane, and their two sons. Louise Hester also married, but remained in Tampa to begin a fern growing company (at the family home in Tampa Heights) with her husband Earl Davis. Louise lived at this location until her death in 1961. Frances D. Heim, the daughter of Louise and Earl Davis, donated this collection to the library.
