This collection includes articles, a biography, lesson plans, brochures, newspaper clippings, correspondence, contest information and contest entries. Also included are materials from the Suncoast Young Authors Conference, the "Tell Me A Story" writing contest sponsored by IBM and Good Housekeeping, and the Harper Collins Children's Books "Favorite Teacher" Writing Contest.

Biographical:
Dr. Gloria McLendon Houston, born in Marion, North Carolina, recieved a bachelor's degree in music education from Appalachian State University, and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in English and children's literature and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary studies from the University of South Flordida. While an author-in-residence at the College of Education at USF, she taught language arts, writing techniques, and literature for young readers. During her career, she has written many children's books including iThe Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree/i and iMy Brother Joey Died/i. She coordinated the Suncoast Young Authors Conferences and co-directed the Young Authors Camp, and also served as a children's book reviewer for the iTampa Tribune/i.
