Biographical:
Born on March 13, 1913 in New York City, Louise Lee Floethe is the author of numerous children's books, including iSea of Grass /i (1968), iThe Islands of Hawaii /i(1964), iA Thousand and One Buddhas /i (1956), and many other titles. In 1937, she married Richard Floethe (1901-1988), a German painter, print maker, and illustrator with whom she traveled extensively. Richard studied art in Munich and at the Bauhaus in Weimar. He illustrated many of the children?s books written by Louise and, from 1954-1967, he worked as an instructor in illustration at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. Louise and Richard Floethe died in Sarasota, Florida in 1988. Together, they have an impressive number of children's books to their credit.
