Scope and Content:
The documents contained in the collection were generated from her own music classes and the classes of other teachers at various Black schools in the area.The bulk of the materials consist of handwritten and typed lesson plans and intructional materials related to music. The collection also includes study guides, programs, bibliographies, student assignments, Mrs. Harris' notes, and select pieces of sheet music.

Biographical:
Mrs. Isabel M. Harris taught music at Booker T. Washington Junior High School, the first African American junior high school in Tampa, Florida. Although the school first opened its doors in 1925 as a junior high school, course offerings were soon expanded to include include high school classes, making Booker T. Washington the area's only junior high and high school for African American students to attend until the mid 1930s. The school has undergone many changes since, from the district's 1971 desegregation plan, to the conversion of the school into a Magnet School for International Studies in the 1990s. Today, Booker T. Washington is an elementary school.
