The Plant Railway System was established in 1865 when Henry B. Plant began purchasing stock in Georgia and Florida railroads, which had been thrust into financial ruin after the Civil War. The system, which linked many areas in Florida, prompted significant changes in the state's social, economic, and political conditions.
