Scope and Content:
Collection consists of Greville Rickard’s architectural drawings for additions to the Mediterranean-style residence of Mr. William Slocum Bartow in Great Neck, Long Island. (Bartow was the mayor of Kings Point from 1924-1940). Today, the building houses the American Merchant Marine Museum.

Biographical:
Born on December 8, 1889 in Denver, Colorado, Greville Rickard received his Bachelor of Science from Sheffield Scientific School at Yale. He attended the Beaux Arts Institute of Design Projects in New York, and graduated from Yale Architectural School before launching his career in drafting, detail, and design. In 1923, Rickard established his own practice, and was issued architectural licenses in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. During World War I and World War II, he served as Chief of the Camouflage Unit for the 40supth/sup Engineers and the Office of Civilian Defense. Rickard is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Gold Medal Award from the Fifth Avenue Association for best alteration (1926) and a Gold Medal Award from the Connecticut Real Estate Board for best residence in Greenwich (1930). For his work in the Office of Civilian Defense during World War II, Rickard was also awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Service.
