In the late 1950s, neurosurgeon Dr. Mason Trupp collaborated with Edward L. Flynn, an oral surgeon, and Reginald G. Standerwick, a developmental engineer, to design a skeletal head frame for the treatment of maxillo-facial fractures. Their design was viewed by representatives of Surgeon General in 1958 and touted as a major achievement by the [i]Journal of American Medicine[/i] that same year. This collection consists of technical drawings of the design for a skeletal head frame, photographs of the completed work in various manners of display, correspondence, articles, and a manual of neuro-anatomy.

Dr. Mason Trupp (1913-1985)was born in Baltimore in 1913. He received his Doctorate of Medicine in 1937 from the University of Maryland and moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1947. For the next 38 years, Dr. Trupp worked as a neurosurgeon at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Florida before his death in 1985. He is well-known for his collaborative work designing a skeletal head frame for the treatment of maxillo-facial fractures.
