The majority of this collection consists of Spanish newspaper articles about Communism, dated late 1970s to the mid 1980s. The collection also includes Dr. Capsas' master's thesis and a letter he sent to U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Biographical:
Cleon Capsas (1925 - 1998) was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended George Peabody College and Vanderbilt University and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and a Master of Arts in Inter-American Studies. He received his doctoral degree in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of New Mexico. He served as a Commander of the U.S. Navy and was also a member of the Peace Corps. Dr. Capsas received several awards during his lifetime, including being listed in the Directory of American Scholars, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of Greek Descent and Personalities of the South. From 1970 to 1997, Dr. Capsas was a professor at the University of South Florida, where he primarily taught Spanish and Portuguese although he served as a guest professor for the International Studies program. Capsas was also a member of the Lecture Series Committee and worked as an Adjunct Librarian of the U.S.F. Special Collections Department. Dr. Capsas died of a stroke at the Tampa VA Nursing Home Care Unit on August 31, 1998.
