Biographical:
Richard T. Bowers (1930-2007) came to the University of South Florida as Assistant Director of Physical Education and Athletics. In 1966 he became the university's second Athletics Director. During his tenure, he introduced and developed thirteen intercollegiate sports, built the Sun Dome, developed Red McEwen Baseball Field, and established the USF golf course. In 1982, Bowers left his position as Athletics Director to become Special Assistant to USF President John Lott Brown and Executive Director of the USF Athletics Association. In 1983, he moved to the College of Business Administration as Director for Development. From 1992 to 1999 he was Associate Dean and Professor in the College of Business Administration and in 1999 became Associate Dean and Director for Development for the college. He retired in 2003 after a distinguished 40 year career at the University of South Florida. Bowers died on November 29, 2007 at the age of 77.
