Biographical:
Samuel Henry Forrer was born in Luray, Virginia on September 21, 1874.  Forrer attended  Transylvania College (now Transylvania University) in Lexington, Kentucky.  In 1898, he graduated from the College of the Bible, a theological seminary affiliated with Transylvania College. He continued his education with post-graduate courses at Boston University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Princeton University. In 1904, he married Louise Lloyd (born February 2, 1877) of Fostoria, Ohio.  A Presbyterian minister, Reverend Forrer served ten years as pastor of the Park Presbyterian Church in Erie, Pennsylvania, then for thirty years as pastor of the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan.  Following his retirement in 1948, Samuel and Louise Forrer moved to central Florida and lived in Orlando (1948-1959) and Lakeland (1960-1972). Forrer Hall, a women's dormitory building at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky commemorates Samuel and Louise Forrer's generous contributions to the university.  Between 1956 and 1962, the Forrers donated over $500,000 to Transylvania University and its affiliate the  College of the Bible (Lexington Theological Seminary).  In 1963, Florida Presbyterian College (later renamed Eckerd College) in St. Petersburg, Florida honored the Forrers for their gift of the Forrer Language Center, a $186,000 building which they funded for the college.  Having been in poor health for some years, Louise Forrer predeceased her husband. Samuel Forrer died in Lakeland, Florida on November 18, 1972 at age 98.
