emph render italic Lykes Brothers, Inc. vs. United States Army Corps of Engineers, argued before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, concerned the ownership and navigability of Fisheating Creek which runs through Glades and Highlands Counties. Through sworn testimonies, affidavits, and depositions, local residents claimed the creek had been open to public use and navigable from Venus downstream to Lake Okeechobee for as long as they could remember. Additional testimony acknowledged that Lykes Brothers Inc., which claimed ownership of the creek and adjacent property, had attempted to prevent navigation numerous times.
