Scope and Content:
This collection consists of typescripts written by Elton E. Smith, “The Two Voices:  A Tennyson Study,” “The Angry Young Men of the Thirties,” and “Charles Reade.”  Also includes a typescript of  “Jairus’ Daughter,” written by Esther Greenwell Smith, and the galley proofs for iWilliam Godwin/i, written by both authors in collaboration.

Biographical:
Dr. Elton Edward Smith, born 1915 in New York City, attended New York University, Harvard Divinity School, Andover Newton Theological School, and Syracuse University. He began teaching English at the University of South Florida in 1961. As a Baptist clergyman, he has served in churches in Massachusetts, Oregon, New York, and Florida. His books include iThe Angry Young Men of the Thirties/i, iCharles Reade,/i iLouis MacNeice/i, and iThe Two Voices/i. He collaborated with his wife, Esther Marian Greenwell Smith on iWilliam Godwin/i, a selection in Twayne’s English Authors Series. Her books include iThe Cascade Empire/i, iJairus’s Daughter/i, and iMrs. Humphrey Ward/i.
