Biographical:
An Illinois native, Howard Wilsky moved to Tampa in 1904 at age seven. Trained as a bricklayer, Wilsky became very interested in basketball. He worked as towel boy for the YMCA, and with Physical Director Robert Roberts, organized a local team of working boys called the Imps. Wilsky took the post of director after Roberts died in 1915. After a stint in the army duiring World War I, Wilsky returned to the YMCA. In the early 1920s, Hillsborough High School asked him to coach its basketball team. The team won the state chamopnship in 1923 and competed in the national finals. In 1924, Wilsky was promoted to Athletic Director. He later helped organize the Florida Athletic Association. Wilsky was let go in 1928 when Hillsborough High became accredited and all faculty were required to hold college degrees. In his later years, Wilsky coached little league baseball and softball.
