Scope and Content:
This collection contains correspondence, photographs, event programs, scrapbooks and other personal memorabilia concerning Ruth Carrell Johnson. Included in the collection are personal family photographs, and photographs of pupils of Ruth Carrell Johnson from her days as a piano teacher in Tampa, Florida.

Biographical:
Ruth Carrell Johnson was born in 1902 in Pennsylvania but moved to Tampa, Florida sometime before her 10th year. She attended Hillsborough County Junior High School and Hillsborough County High School where she graduated in 1918. Johnson went on to attend Florida State College for Women where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and she attended University of Rochester where she earned a Bachelor of Music Degree with distinction. Johnson was a moderately known pianist, and eventually she and her husband George Johnson set up Johnson Music Studios in Tampa, Florida where she taught Piano, Cello, Violin and Music Theory. Johnson was also President of Friday Morning Musicale from 1951 - 1953 and remained involved in musical organizations until the time of her death in 1980 at age 78.
