Scope and Content:
This collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, publications, notebooks, speeches and manuscripts.  Additionally, the collection contains research materials on Tampa history from the 1930s to the mid-1960s, and a substantial amount of information on Katherine Mansfield. Manuscripts included in the collection are The Woman at the Opposite Table, and The Chuch and the Domination of Darkness. Also included are manuscripts of Michael O'Brien's short stories.

Biographical:
Lucy Fulghum O'Brien was a journalist and author. O'Brien attended Florida State College of Women where, in 1935, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Journalism. During the 1930s, Lucy O'Brien became the first female news reporter at the Tampa Tribune, working for the newspaper for a total of eleven years over four decades.  After retiring from the paper in 1958, she used her collection of paper ephemera to open an antiques and collectibles shop in Ybor City, called The Red Horse.
