Biographical:
Christopher Still is a Florida artist whose work has been commissioned and displayed by the Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, and the Florida House of Representatives. A Florida native, Still went to Dunedin High School where he was chosen as the outstanding art student in Pinellas County, and won a scholarship to Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, which he delayed in favor of studying with fresco artist Benjamin F. Long IV in Florence, Italy. While in Europe Still continued to paint, even working as a gardener once his money ran out. He discovered the Dutch masters’ work in Holland, and later returned to Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, which had awarded him full tuition and a Cresson scholarship for travel in Europe. Still’s collection of prints held at USF Tampa Special Collections consists of the eight murals commissioned by the Florida House of Representatives, each of which depicts an era in Florida time, from the prehistoric to the modern world. In 2010, Still was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, and continues to paint from his studio in Tarpon Springs.
