Scope and Content:
This collection contains correspondence, financial documents, news clippings, expense journals, date books and notebooks pertaining to James Jackson and Kate Jackson.  Additional material contained within the collection involves Hannah Walker, Seth Stetson Walker and Lula Dovi.  Included within these sections are funerary notices of Hannah Walker, business dealings and financial documents of Seth S. Walker as well as information on his Orange Juice cannery business located in Tampa, Florida.

Biographical:
John Jackson (1809 - 1887) was the 9th Mayor of the City of Tampa. He was born in Ballybag, County Monaghan, Ireland in June 1809. In 1841, he immigrated to the United States and worked as a civil engineer. In 1843, he moved to Florida and settled in Tampa, where he conducted the city's first surveys in the late 1840s, 1850 and 1853. He married Ellen Maher with whom he had five children: Mary Ellen, Thomas Edward, James Andrew, Kate Veronica and John Alexander. James was an architect and business manager, and died of typhoid fever. Kate Jackson was a graduate of the Covenent of Holy Names in Key West, Florida and performed civic, cultural and charitable projects in Tampa. She was active in the Tampa Civic Association and the Tampa Women's club.
