Caption on back of photograph reads: "ALLIED SUPREME COMMANDER. This picture of General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Allied Expeditionary Force, was taken at his headquarters February 1, 1945. The new five-star cluster, together with the Great Seal of the United States, on the General's shoulder are the insignia of the rank of General of the Army to which the Allied commander was nominated December 15, 1944, by the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt."
