British, American and Russian government heads sit in the patio of the palace in Yalta, health resort in the Crimea, during their eight-day meeting in early February, 1945. Seated left to right are: British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Russian Marshal Josef Stalin. Standing left to right are: British Admiral of the Fleet Sir Andrew Cunningham, First Sea Lord; U.S. Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations; British Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Charles Portal, Chief of the Air Staff; U.S. Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, Chief of Staff to President Roosevelt, and other high-ranking Allied officers. During the historic Crimea Conference, Prime Minister Churchill, President Roosevelt and Marshal Stalin came to complete agreement on matters of both war and peace."
