Notes

Abstract:
Caption on front of photograph reads: "Informal Routing Slip. HEADQUARTERS. United States Army Forces in The British Isles. SECRET. FOR OFFICERS ONLY. FILE:. DATE: 6/5. SUBJECT: Medical considerations, housing program for U.S. troops. Fill in each column, initial section, and draw a line across the sheet just below initials. Number each memo consecutively in first column. Use entire width of sheet for long memos. No. 1. From Eng. To Surgeon [illegible] Davison. Date 6/5. It occurs to me that the close crowding of U.S. & British troops in limited housing facilities during the coming winter might be an attractive condition for the use of bacteriological warfare by the Germans. They have unquestionably been doing some experimenting along such lines and would be prepared to employ such tactics to avoid an invasion attempt by the Allies. I believe consideration of the possibilities of an active attempt to spread disease under overcrowded conditions should be borne in mind in all our planning and any preventative measures should be planned from the inception of our work. 3/4. No. 2. From [illegible]. To Surgeon. Date 6/5. The British plans call for 16 to a hut, as soon as we begin to push them out of the Southern [illegible]. DAD. AGO-Hq. USAFBI. Office Form No. 1. SECRET. FOR OFFICERS ONLY."
