The students composed a 585-word essay about the war. They wrote entirely in English and decided to write in pairs. They assigned themselves the task of writing about events that occurred “before,” “during,” and “after” the war. They conducted Internet research at home and wrote individual contributions to the text at home as well. The teacher candidates directed the students as they assembled and combined their individual papers into one text. The students also developed, wrote, and produced a film about the war. After creating a storyboard of the plot, the students created props and wrote Spanish dialogue at home. The students acted in all scenes. The teacher candidates, serving as camera operators, filmed the students using an iPad. The teacher candidates and students edited the film and included translated English text scroll at the bottom of the screen. The students performed the scenes entirely in Spanish (with English sub-titles).
