Notes

Abstract:
Abercrombie Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, contains mounds and shell middens that are part of a large pre-Columbian village occupied by Native Americans between AD 140 and 565, during the early Weeden Island period and again during the early Safety Harbor period, between AD 890 and 1390. This circular embankment is all that is left of a small sand and shell mound that was originally about 4 feet high and 58 feet in diameter. Fill from the mound was excavated and used for local streets in the 1920s. Using terrestrial laser scanning technologies (terrestrial LiDAR), the remnants of the mound were documented, providing a digital reconstruction that is accurate to within millimeters. The vertical dimension of this terrain model has been exaggerated for better visualization and for 3D printing. This model is 3D print verified and can be shared and used freely for educational and research purposes.
