Notes

Abstract:
Large bold incised and complicated stamped rim and body sherd with reed punctate marks noted. This piece is held in collections of the Ocmulgee National Monument and was found near the National Park Service site at a site listed as ‘Hawkins Point’. The back of the piece indicates that it was 1 of 2 sherds that crossmend, however, this fragment rim sherd is the only one in the curated collections today. The piece has numbering indicative of 1930s era archaeology conducted in the region under the aspices of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The design of this piece is Lamar bold incised, and exhibits wide line incising on the top, and a row of reed punctations that serve as a border. This angled or rounded bowl also exhibits complicated stamping with curvilinear and rectilinear elements.
