The University of South Florida Fort Myers -Sarasota -St. Petersburg Tampa PREFACE AND ACKNOWLEOOMENTS This fact book has been developed to provide an easy-to-use, eclectic source of information about the University. Although not exhaustive, the book includes information which is often requested of the Office of Institutional Research, and which is useful when responding to questionnaires, preparing descriptive reports, or interacting with the many publics of the University. The fact book begins with a historical profile of the University and then presents detailed current information regarding the University's milieu, its students and programs, faculty and staff, fiscal resources, and physical facilities. This information will be updated annually in subsequent versions of the fact book. As you use the fact book, my office would appreciate being advised of tables that prove useful, and of any additions or modifications you feel would improve the book. I sincerely wish to thank the many offices that have assisted with the development of information for the fact book. Also, I wish to give special acknowledgement to Fran Hill for coordinating this ambitious project, and to Rosaria Maglinte and Pamela Meares for preparing a very professional, attractive document. In addition, each Library provides open access for use of materials in the library and participates in the Florida Library Information Network which enables all Florida residents to borrow materials through interlibrary loan procedures. The Reference staff in each library provides students and faculty access to numerous bibliographic data bases through on-line computerized searches. The University Library (Tampa Campus) cooperates with the University's Center for Economic and Management Research to provide on-line search services to businesses and individuals. Other special services and facilities of the University Library are the Special Collections Department, book lockers for students, 20 small group conference rooms, 121 study rooms (carrels) for faculty and doctoral students, and the USF Room 81 SOURCES: HEGIS Form 2300-5 and USF Library
