The University of South Florida Fort Myers -Sarasota -St. Petersburg -Tampa 1986-87 PREFACE The University of South Florida is a public, comprehensive, metropolitan undergraduate and graduate university. It enrolls approximately 29,500 students in 90 undergraduate areas, 85 master's and specialist programs and 19 doctoral programs, including the M.D. The University's faculty of over 1,600 members delivers instruction in eleven colleges and on four campuses. To assist you in knowing more about the University of South Florida, this fact book presents information about our students, programs, faculty, staff, and instructional, financial, and physical resources. The information selected for inclusion in the Fact Book reflects the questions most frequently asked by the University's many publics. This fourth, annual edition of the Fact Book follows the general format of the prior editions; therefore, year-to-year comparisons of information can be readily made. In response to requests from you, tables have been added reflecting state census data, the university's applicant-admissionenrollment data, and fine arts performance and exhibition facilities. A few tables have had to be omitted this year due to problems encountered when using the data; these will be reinstated next year. Please telephone Fran T. Hill, who coordinated the production of this fact book, if you have any questions about the information presented. The staff of the Office of Resource and Policy Analysis sincerely thanks the many offices that contributed materials for the Fact Book. It(_ Jt{J-ekf Susan M.
