Curating Illustrations of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

The buttons below will show you a path through my research of illustrations in Lewis Carroll's Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. To begin this project, I located and collected about 5,700 images from 111 editions of the book from research and public libraries across the United States. I organized and looked closely at these illustrations as I sought responses to one main question: In what ways do Carroll's Wonderland and Tenniel's accompanying illustrations relate to artists' later interpretations of Wonderland? I approached the collection with ideas about prominent themes in the story: nature, reality, size, time, and the development of personal identity. The files here describe my processes throughout this project, then begin to describe the products of this work.
