Abstract:
To highlight one group's composing process, this page features one micro-classroom of 5th-grade students and two teacher candidates. The micro-classroom was one of 12 groups focused on creating projects about two curricular topics: the American Revolution and Vertebrates. This particular group focused on the French and Indian War. The classroom teacher grouped these students together based solely on their status as dual-language speakers. She thought they might benefit from using their home language (Spanish) in school. Jenifer Jasinski Schneider, the course instructor, assigned the teacher candidates to this group based on their interest in working with dual-language speakers. Aimee Frier, the research assistant, observed the course instruction and the group of students and teacher candidates during every session. Aimee documented the students' and teachers' process and products by videotaping their interactions and writing field notes. The micro-classroom highlights the students' written text and film. The remaining items on this page demonstrate the groups' process for creating the film portion of their product: Script Development, Pre-production, Production, Post-production.
