United States -- Florida -- Brevard County -- Indian River Lagoon

This wooden canoe was discovered one day after Hurricane Irma battered the east coast of Florida, washing up on a shoreline road next to the Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County. An amateur photographer who was out on a bike ride in the aftermath of the storm found the vessel and reported it to the State of Florida Division of Historical Resources. Working with State Archaeologists, the University of South Florida Libraries Digital Heritage specialists used 3D imaging to document the canoe. The resulting models and CAD drawings will be used for research, conservation and preservation strategies and condition assessment, and will be integral to interpretation and education efforts. To visualize the data [while viewing the 3D Model], use your key pad to press 1, 2, and 3 to control color and shading. Pressing “3” allows removal of color shading and ability to better see markings in some cases.
