General Note:
3/8/1939; handwritten note: "my name must have been included on your list by mistake. I am situated so far from Spoonbill country that, in 23 years residence here, I have never seen a Spoonbill. I know of only two instances of occurence -- one bird was shot at Orange Beach, ala. (about 20 miles west of Pensacola) several years ago in a nesting colony of Louisiana Herons, and three birds were reported from Dead Lakes, near Blountstown, Fla. (about 160 miles east of Pensacola), also several years ago. The Orange Beach bird was later presented to the Birmingham (Ala.) Public Library museum and was, I believe, recorded in the ___ by Mrs. Helen M. Edwards. Look about 1932. The Blountstown birds were mentioned in the Florida Naturalist of about 1928. I have since visited the Dead Lake region in company with Herbert L. Stoddard in hopes of seeing Spoonbills, but none could be found."
