Bain Sr. Supervising Environmental Analyst, NRM Division Date: Ol-MAY-1998 Subject: 101 RANCH Application No. 980213-6 Permit No. 47-00338-S Okeechobee County, SS, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 17/T34S/R3 Environmental Conunents for Staff Report ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMARY: The applicant proposes construction of a surface water management system serving 1098 acres of the total 2415 acres owned by the applicant. The project area is to be divided into three basins to amend drainage for three pasture areas which are used for beef cattle, hay and sod. Levees, part of which are existing would be constructed to isolate the pastures from excessive inundation. Design modification were initiated to reduce and eliminate adverse impacts to wetlands. Remaining adverse impacts are to be offset by mitigation. The applicant proposes to address approximately 5 acres of wetland impact through preservation. Wetland impact area dominated by wet prarie pastures are to be mitigated for by the preservation of shallow to deep water sawgrass habitat in combination with adjacent upland areas.
