19 January, 2001 Mr. Saleh Popalzai South Florida Water Management District Water Use Division 3301 Gun Club Road West Palm Beach, Fl. 33406 Subject: Okeechobee Ranch Water Use Application (No. 001116-6) Dear Saleh, This correspondence is a request that the above application proceed to the February Governing Board for approval for two (2) wells into the Floridan Aquifer for agricultural irrigation. In addition, the landowner requests the utilization of the unpermitted shallow well for cattle drinking water until the necessary approval is obtained from the District's Governing Board for the deep wells. This request is being made due to emergency drought conditions that have existed on-site, which has resulted i'n a dire need for cattle drinking water. Recently, contaminated water resulted in the deaths of a number of cattle on the property. We request a volume of 12 gallons per cow per day until Governing Board approval is obtained. In addition, please be advised that once a deep well becomes operational we propose the abandonment of the existing shallow well that is currently used to supply drinking water to cattle located on the site. We will fill out and submit the well abandonment application to the South Florida Water Management for the shallow well at that time. We have requested and do wish to proceed with a test well into the Floridan Aquifer for purposes of evaluating water quality, chloride levels and production capabilities. The test well will not be utilized for on-site irrigation until the Governing Board has provided the necessary approvals . Thank you for your assistance. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at 770-3802952. Loris C . Asmussen, P .E. C: Audubon-Paul Gray, PhD. 100 Riverwoods Circle Lorida, Fl. 33857
