As we discussed, Mr. Durando's environmental resource permit application for authorization to construct the flow-way was submitted to the South Florida Water Management District today. The permit application presents data for culverts, risers and canals designed to convey runoff from drainage basin nos. 1 and 2 (refer to the drainage map we sent you previously). These basins are located primarily on Durando' s property, but also include portions of Audubon's land. The design capacity of the Flow-way to serve basin nos. 1 and 2 is 90.7 cubic feet per second. Two culverts would be required, each with an 84-inch diameter riser weir, 48-inch diameter barrel, invert elevation of 61.1 feet and weir crest elevation of 68.5 feet. Of course, the flow way canal must be constructed in order for these culverts to work properly. Sizing the flow-way to convey runoff from basin nos. 1, 2, and 3, would require a design capacity of 121.3 cubic feet per second. Accordingly, the Military grade culverts and flow-way canal would have to be larger than currently designed. For example, the culverts at Military Grade would have the same invert and weir crest elevations but would require three units with 48-inch diameter barrels and 48-inch diameter risers.
