Holograph letter: signed to Col. Joseph S. Sanchez, Washington, D.C., from St. Augustine, Florida. 1 sheet; 25 cm. Francis L. Dancy was a cadet in the United States Army (1821-1836), a U.S. Engineer, superintendent of repairs at Fort Marion and a St. Augustine sea wall (1836-1838), and the Mayor of St. Augustine (1838-1839). Correspondence regards personal matters, an appropriations bill for rebuilding the St. Sebastian Bridge at Picolata Road, the Saw Wall, and Col. Hanson. Includes transcription, handwritten notes, and a biographical notes (from A Dictionary of the Army of the United States. New York: G.P. Putnam & Co., 1853).
