Roman Catacombs of St. Lucy at Syracuse, Sicily
The so called ‘Pagan Shrine’ is located in the south-western corner of Regio C of the Catacombs of St. Lucy. It is certainly the most important structure predating the foundation of the communal cemetery. With its complex of frescoes with mundane themes and pagan deities, dated between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD, this hypogeal Pagan Shrine, later encompassed in the catacombs without any damage caused to the paintings, still has a central place in the academic dispute.
